Greatest science fiction movie of all time, and one of the top 10 films ever made. I honestly think that no filmmaker will be this daring, exciting and original again in the history of cinema. Stanley Kubrick redefined what could be achieved through the medium of film, and by pushing these boundaries to their absolute limits, he created an absolute classic.

A thought-provoking and mind-blowing masterpiece!

Is true that the book came at the same time as the novel, but is also true that is based on a short story by the same Arthur C. Clark called "The Sentinel". Based on that story Clark and Kubrick developed the script of the movie and the novel.

This movie isn't even based on a book! The book came out at the same time.

2001: Space Odyssey, is possibly the best science fiction movie out there. Kubrick, again, done a wonderful job painting an aging book a new coat of shiny movie paint. The special effects are actually better than some of the more modern movies (looking at you I Am Legend), the cast was picked perfectly, the voice for Hal (Douglas Rain) is completely amazing and fits the character well.

Being based off an amazing book, the story is followed almost to the line. The ideas of aliens, AI and other futuristic things make this a thinking film as well. Kubrick has made another movie better than the book it was based on. A must see for every single film-maker, film viewer, or anyone who takes an looksee at anything amazing.
