Stripped of dignity, that's rubbish! There is no such thing as Dignity when you are talking about THE DOLE... employment benefits. Still I don't see these people looking for jobs. Amnesty you better get your facts straight. I've been accused of knee-jerk reactions on this issue, but they are not knee-jerk, they are based on FACT. DID YOU KNOW There... See More are solid reports, and proof of INCEST, CHILD ABUSE and VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN occurring in these communities, and you have consistently FAILED to mentioned that in your disgusting "fund-grabbing" articles on this issue. That means your argument IS Out of Context. Everyone should GO TO THE Northern Territory and SEE the way these people behave... they get more and more benefits that they just take, take, take and then demand more. They do little constructive with the money (taxpayers money), and children are missing out on basic needs because of the selfish behaviour of their parents. Money won't fix this, WE HAVE TRIED THAT ALREADY. It is an attitude problem, where people think they are owed something but they give nothing to the greater community in the first instance, and I see nothing in return for all the money they get thrown at them. It appears PM Kevin Rudd's APOLOGY to the Stolen Generation has fallen on deaf ears at Amnesty. We are truly doing our best, and you best stop misdirecting the truth! I plead with everyone, don't take Amnesty's word for it, go there and take a REAL look before you pass judgment on what our Government is trying to do to help these poor lost, and somewhat desperate people. I'm not disputing that they need help, of course they do... but it is their poor attitudes that keep bringing them down again. Also, if you believe I am too being racist, believe what you will. Some of my best friends are Aboriginal, but I am talking about people who work hard to make life better for themselves. The embattled communitites in the northern territory are not doing anything to HELP themselves, and are just continuously asking for handouts! People who get handouts are subject to the RULES of those HANDOUTS. People who behave badly in a social sense, need to be dealt with heavy-handedly, regardless of their race, or the problem just continues to fester. Take for instance, the WORK FOR THE DOLE program... if you think Income Management, or Quarantining (that's a new one) of SOCIAL SECURITY funds is wrong, you'll think work for the dole is wrong too, but the system works effectively. Get a clue Amnesty and stop trying to manipulate the truth!

racism is alive & well in Australia, though no doubt 'Awarealis' would deny that her particular brand of uninformed opinion is racism, before you pass judgement on an entire group of people be they indigenous, refugees or so-called "full-blood whites" ( a cringeworthy term indeed) you need to inform yourself of all the issues, including the ones ... See Moreyou so conveniently ignore. Perhaps by better understanding why a situation is happening, rather than blaming those who are living it, for their own plight, you might actually find your own humanity.

My understanding was that we have extensive programs in place to try to improve the situation - there's no one-size-fits-all fix, because you've got both isolated and urban communities, and people seeking traditional lifestyles and those who prefer a modern lifestyle. You can't have both autonomy -and- government intervention, and just throwing money at a problem doesn't fix it.

Kirsten Dear friends: From Chile. Last July, after THIRTEEN YEARS OF TRIAL, ALEJANDRO SCHAYMAN KLEIN- abuser and parricide- was condemned life imprisonment for his crimes. He escaped to Bolivia, and he has been reported living in Sucre by Interpol. After two months and thirteen days, on October 13, Supreme Court of Chile appro...ved the extradition request of this criminal to be sendt by Chilean Foreing Ministry to Bolivian Government, and it has not been done yet. Every nation has the duty to "remove obstacles" that might hinder the human right to justice; and as we have seen in this case, Chilean authorities have selves-made "time" as the greatest obstacle to reach justice. We appeal to the International Human Rights Organizations to get involved in this case, as we can not see from Chilean authorities the will to treat our children as Humans with full rights.

Kirsten "Despite some positive developments, a large legacy of “unfinished business” from the era of military government has been accumulated, entrenched in laws and institutional culture that persists in some sectors of state institutions, severely hindering Chile’s ability to comply with the international human rights standa...rds to which it aspires. Moreover, government action and inaction have allowed new patterns of violations and denial of rights which affect both victims of the dictatorship period as well as making new victims of other sectors of Chilean society."
