Join us for the Barbican Yuletide late night bonanza on Thursday the 17th of December From 5:30 until silly o’clock!
The Barbican throws open it’s doors for the December Lates with an alternative Christmas extravaganza of bargain fun and free activity. Take your pick from a range of activities in the foyer areas with th...e Christmas Bazaar, Singles Club, Secret Wars and much more. Dance through the foyers till the early hours of the morning as Boy Blue DJ Mikey J plays the latest music accompanied by pop-locking street dancers on the Clubstage
£3 Christmas Bazaar
From 5:30 until well past midnight
In response to the deluge of over priced Christmas market taking place over the festive period, £3 Christmas Bazaar challenges ideas of value and nostalgically looks back to a time of church hall fares and school Christmas fetes. Events where you could go in with your pocket money, have a go on the Tombola, buy all of your family’s presents from the white elephant stall and come away with a bag full of mince pies that would give the W.I. a run for their money. Upcoming Artists including students from RCA, Goldsmith, Central St Martins and Camberwell College of Art will take over the foyer areas with stalls selling everything from the decorative to the conceptual. From works of art to quirky stocking fillers, come away with the perfect present. Alternatively, compete in a thumb wrestling match courtesy of Tinned Fingers, a dynamic group of artists who turn the mundane into creative fun.
Secret Wars and The Shadow Grotto
Witness the live graffiti stand-off Secret Wars on their mission to turn live art into a recognised sport. Alternatively throw some festive shapes and cast a Christmas silhouette at The Shadow Grotto a reverse take on a traditional Santa’s Grotto. The Shadow Grotto invites visitors to create their own Christmas backdrop made up of after images.
Singles Club
From 7pm until your feet hurt
Barbican will also host the inaugural Singles Club. An opportunity to dust off the old 7”s or impress with new recently purchased limited addition vinyl, Singles Club encourages music fans to bring along their favourite singles and invites them to play at being DJ. Single or attached, anyone can join in. In case anyone is itching to have a go on the decks but has forgotten their records, 7” can be borrowed from Single Club’s own collection of classics or new and vintage vinyl can be bought at stalls outside the club hosted by Beggars Group labels (4AD, Roughtrade, XL) Fat Cat, One Little Indian, ATP, Lex and new up and coming independents
