In Beaminster work is currently underway renovating the White Hart Hotel. It has been laying fallow for some time, but it has a bit of drink-related history attached.
Beaminster's most famous son lived there. He was Thomas Hine, who gave his name to Cognac Hine, long recognized as the 'connoisseurs' cognac. Thomas was b...orn in 1775, but left 17 years later seek his fortune in France. Although it was at the time of the French Revolution, he found employment in a brandy business in Jarnac. He was no fool, married the bosses daughter, became a partner and finally owned the business.
