England Thanks Paul for your 'winter favourite' - ' ...lots of the old traditions have been revived on London's South Bank in recent years and this year we get a Christmas show at The Globe to boot! Excellent!'

The winter market will be made up of 40-50 quality arts and crafts stalls, selling those last minute stocking fillers including handmade jewellery, fine ceramics, wooden Christmas crafts, leather ...

The National Trust Gardens in Anglesey Abbey near Cambridge are an inspiration to plan for year-round interest in the garden. Shape, colour of stems and density of planting with contrasting heights are admirably demonstrated in the Winter Walk pathways. (And . . . the restaurant and shop have been rebuilt so the destination ticks lots of boxes.)

Or try Ice skating - lots of rinks around London. Nat History Museum has a rink outside and one the restaurants inside the Museum has an open terrace where you can sit looking over the rink.

The colder weather is starting to set in but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy England. There are many ways to enjoy a crisp winter’s day. Here we focus on the quintessential English cottage experience - the open fire.
