I would suggest finding a local ringcraft class. Where abouts in the country are you?

Hi Lisa First you should stop getting so worried, bitches are very capable, make sure you have a nice warm and quiet area for her, I find that a box with a hot water bottle under a blanket is usefull to put a pup in while the bitch is giving birth to the other pups, lots of towls to rub the pups with if you need to help mum out, this also helps the pups to feel you rubbing them, make sure you have your vet on call just in case there is a problem, and a large pot of coffee, good luck.

I recommend also having a friend for company. It can take a while and a bit of moral support can help.

Hi Lisa, may we recommend that you talk to your vet - it is good for the vet to know that a litter is due just in case contact needs to be made out of hours etc.

If the owner of the sire of the litter is a breeder (rather than just a stud dog owner) then they can often be of assistance or on the end of a telephone to give advice if needed. Similarly, the breeder that you bought the bitch from might be someone to help advice.

A breed club can also be a good point of contact but probably what she needs is someone to be on the end of the phone during the whelping - just to give reassurance that everything is going ok. Cocker Spaniel Club, Mr D Shepland, Tel: 01793 751102.... Read more

We aim to have processed Kennel Name applications within 14 days of receiving the application. Therefore if your puppies are due on the 17th November you will have plenty of time. I cannot understand why you waited for the pups to be weaned to score the male. A score of 30 is still too high, the breed average is 19. I dont know anyone who breeds from more than 15. If you knew the paperwork was not in your name at that time, how did you get the scoring done? as the scores go back to the registered owner?

Tracey - Sorry to hear about your girl, unfortunately nature can be rather cruel and these things can happen, breeders just do their best to try and prevent it.
