Motown Records December 2: Two eventual hit singles released 1965, “It Takes Two” by Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston and the Supremes' “My World Is Empty Without You.” In 1979 the Metropolitan Opera House in New York plays host to Stevie Wonder performing his soundtrack to Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants, with Wonderlove and the A...fro-American Orchestra, as the film is screened behind him.

Motown Records November 30: Motown lifts “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” from Marvin Gaye’s In The Groove LP and ships the track as a single in 1968. It becomes the company’s biggest-selling hit to date. On the same day in 1960, Motown issues “Shop Around” by the Miracles, the company’s first million-seller.

Motown Records November 20: Marvin Gaye performs “Can I Get A Witness” on the U.K.’s Ready Steady Go television show in 1964, one of the last times he would travel to London until his 1976 tour. In ’65 on this date, the Miracles perform three songs on the U.S. teen dance show Hollywood A Go Go.

Motown Records November 19: Happy Birthdays to Funk Brothers Joe Hunter (1927) and Robert White (1936), and the Miracles’ Warren “Pete” Moore (1939). On this day in 1965 the Supremes have a Christmas single, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Me,” to accompany their Merry Christmas LP. The album includes one of Jimmy Webb’s first recorded songs.
