Rani Mukerji rocks. That’s pretty evident from her latest in a long line-up of rocking performances in Dil Bole Hadippa.

But the newly-toned, slim, fit and hot actress rocked us off our feet at ZOOM, when she expressed a desire to celebrate Eid in the ‘real’ way — having biryani, falooda, phirni, sheer korma, kebabs and fruit platters along with the junta — at a popular joint. She chose a local eatery at Bandra, popular for its biryani, bang opposite the overcrowded Bandra station on the main road. It was a logistical nightmare, what with Eid, the Bandra fair and Navratris on simultaneously. The roads were jammed and traffic and security impossible to handle.

It was something never ever done by any TV channel before, with such a popular star. But ZOOM decided to fulfil her wish. With help from local police, huge support from friendly locals and the eatery’s owners, we pulled off the impossible. Rani actually hopped off her luxury Sedan and into the lucky joint as if it were a five-star. Then she went berserk.

The six months of a tough diet and workout regime forgotten, she dived into the food. Kebabs, curries, biryani and desserts. All at one go. “I used to order a lot from here and enjoy it. But I always wanted to come here. And nothing could have been better than inviting me to fulfil my dream, she told ZOOM — Editor-in-Chief, Omar Qureshi, over the feast.

Looking stunning in a blue salwar kameez, hair bunched neatly, her brown eyes alight at the sight of the feast; she was in such a fab mood that she mingled with all the other diners, much to their pleasant surprise, serving them and asking them if they’d caught her film. In fact, one lady cutely got up and hugged the lovely actress and she hugged her right back, even as the lady’s family applauded. Then she pulled in the ZOOM crew one by one, forcing them to eat.
Rani went on to tell us how she’s always enjoyed great food, especially on Eid.

“Considering my first producer was Salim Akhtar, my first heroes were Aamir and SRK, and I’ve worked so much with Salman; I always got to eat their Eid khaana. So I was craving again.”

Later Rani went out and waved to the hordes of thousands that had gathered and were patiently waiting for her, and a huge roar of ‘Hadippaaaaa’ went up. The actress was moved to tears, yet mingled with some, then when it got crazy, she was requested by security to jump into her car and God speed home.

But guess what... it was a Happy Eid for the charming actress, even as she prepared to leave for the Durga Pooja festivities in Kolkota the next morning.

Rani Mukherjee and Shahid Kapoor share their experience with the film Dil Bole Hadippa! After playing the role of a male cricket player, Rani mukherjee is very happy to be a girl, while Shahid is now eager to show off his lighter side in his first YashRaj film.

RANI MUKHERJEE

What was your reaction when you read the script for the first time?

I was very excited. My fans kept telling me that ‘Rani you are crying too much in your movies so please laugh and make us laugh too’. So, when Dil Bole Hadippa! came my way, I just grabbed it. It’s a very entertaining film with a lot of comedy. I have played the role of a boy who is a cricketer. No other actress has played such a role. It took me just a second to decide that I could pull off this role.

Did you do any research for the boy’s role?

It’s strange, but the whole boy act came very naturally to me. Anjali, a former cricket player who represented India during the World Cup, gave me six months’ training on how to play cricket.

Shahid’s first reaction after seeing you dressed as a male...

He couldn’t recognise me. He started saying, ‘where’s my heroine, please get my heroine...’

Are you working only for YashRaj Films?

That’s a bad rumour. We actors are like beggars. We simply wait for great roles. Hence, I request producers and directors not to believe such rumours. I am free now to work with anyone who comes with a great script and role.

SHAHID KAPOOR

Shahid is now eager to show off his lighter side in his first YashRaj film

What should one expect from you in Dil Bole Hadippa!?

Just the opposite of Kaminey. Dil Bole Hadippa! is an out-and-out entertainment flick; everyone will enjoy it. It shows the lighter side of me.

About your character Rohan...

There are two sides to Rohan. On one side he’s this really serious work-oriented person and on the other, he’s this fun character doing the hadippa and enjoying himself.

How was it working with Rani as a girl and as a Sikh boy?

I kept complaining to Rani that there is no heroine in the film as I had to continuously do scenes with this Veer character! Rani has portrayed Veer brilliantly and there are scenes between Veer and Rohan that are hilarious. Romancing Rani was also fabulous.

Did you help her in cricket?

She had actually rehearsed six months before the shoot. I was so impressed with her cricketing skills. Initially I was worried as she had a Sardar character to portray and also play professional cricket. But when I saw her, I realised why she is such a fabulous actor.

Any memorable incident?

There’s a scene when Veer enters the boys’ changing room. They are all semi-naked and get nervous in front of Rani. But Rani and me keep telling them: ‘C’mon, we’re one of you guys!’

Yash Raj Films’ next grand release Dil Bole Hadippa releases September 18 th and in true YRF style is looking bright and vibrant with its fervent Punjabi flavour. After three weeks of low-key releases at the box-office (due to Ramzan and Shraadh period), Dil Bole Hadippa comes as a leash of fresh air for audiences starved of entertainment.

The film recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and received warm response from viewers there. We at Indiatimes Movies give your five good reasons to flock to the theatres near you to check out this film.

Rani’s back in a sexy bikini top

Rani Mukherjee has been away from the big screen since some time now. Her past releases like Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and Laaga Chunari Main Daag received cold response from audiences and she was just seen in special appearances or extended cameos in films like Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Om Shanti Om and Saawariya . So Dil Bole Hadippa almost marks Rani Mukherjee’s grand comeback.

Rani is looking all hip and happening sans all that puppy fat. What more? After donning the traditional look in several films, Rani is sporting a sexy bikini top in this film. Watching her sizzle in the screen will be a perfect paisa wasool.

Contemporary chemistry

After her regular pairing with Shah Rukh, Saif, Salman and Aamir, Rani has a fresh partner in Dil Bole Hadippa in the form of the hot and happening heartthrob Shahid Kapoor. While many suspected the pairing could go wrong because of their age difference, Rani and Shahid are looking great together. Rani’s new hot look and her youthful charm post the weight lose makes her onscreen chemistry with Shahid just perfect!

The cricket connection

While the film has all trademark Yash Chopra ingredients qualifying for a perfect family film, the basic plot of Dil Bole Hadippa revolves around a cricket match. They say Indians have two passions – films and cricket. And if you get both of them together what more can you ask for. Remember Lagaan? Dil Bole Hadippa could repeat history.

Balle Balle boy

This time it’s not just the men who would get to play the game. Rani Mukherjee has taken to the field and will be seen playing cricket but in the garb of a man... a Sardarjee. Her broken English and defensive patriotism makes her character all the more adorable.

The music of the film is chartbuster material and with Rani Mukherjee grooving in songs like Disco Wale Khisko and Dil Bole Hadippa it’s a treat all the way.

Adding to the oomph

If you thought Rani Mukherjee playing a male reduces the feminine appeal of the film, think again. Dil Bole Hadippa has two sexy hotties Sherlyn Chopra and Rakhi Sawant adding sufficient oomph. Both these so called item girls have full-fledged roles in this Yash Raj production and are looking smoking hot in their characters.
