DENTON (UNT) Texas -- A new football stadium for the University of North Texas is about to become a reality. Plans for the stadium passed their final hurdle Thursday (Oct. 29) when the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approved the proposal.

President Gretchen Bataille and the UNT Alumni Association hosted Barbara Orbison, (widow of the late music legend, Roy Orbison) at Fouts Field on Saturday, Oct. 17.
In addition to hosting Mrs. Orbison in the President's suite, UNT also recognized her on the field at the end of the 3rd quarter of the football game. The ...band serenaded her with Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman" and presented her a framed and autographed copy of the sheet music for the song.
Mrs. Orbison had a wonderful time and plans to return to UNT to discuss the preservation of her husband's legacy as a both a great Texas musician and North Texan.

UNT Alumni Association African-American alumni from all generations came back to UNT for Homecoming 2009 and reconnected with former classmates and friends. UNT President Dr. Gretchen Bataille, Vice President for Institutional Equity and Diversity, Dr. Gilda Garcia and others addressed the group and updated them on the tremendous progress taking place on the campus.
