Good news on the Copenhagen front - climate change talks are coming to London. The UK is to host the next meeting of the Major Economies Forum, where the 17 countries with the highest rate of greenhouse gas emissions will meet to make more progress towards a climate deal.

Well said, Angus. Our unsustainable lifestyle will come to an end; the question is whether we will give it up for a better lifestyle or be forced to abandon it for economic reasons.

Diana, we need to adopt all possibilities if we are to get anywhere near the amount of energy currently demanded. We also need to drastically reduce our usage, ... Read moreparticularly by wasting less. That has gains all around except for those intent on making a living out of selling us stuff that we do not need.

The trouble is that virtually all renewable/replenishable energy systems have their detractors and NIMBYs. We need to install hydro, wind, and tidal barrage generation schemes that we have the technology for now and then work on the developing ideas like wave power.

Agreed. Global warming is no singular problem. Sea acidification, toxic leechite from landfill, infinite growth vs finite resource (and it's not just oil running out....)... All of it goes under the canopy of "Global Warming" and this simplifies just how buggered we've made things in our history of racing, racing, racing....
