Description

Global warming is an issue whose time has come. Fairfax County has for several years been a local leader in addressing global warming. At the end of last year, the State of Virginia joined the fray, issuing a final report from the State Commission on Climate Change that found, among other things, that parts of Virginia ranked “10th in the world in value of assets exposed to increased flooding from sea level rise [due to global warming].” Now it is the federal government’s turn. During his inaugural address, President Barack Obama noted the urgency of energy, global warming, and jobs – three crises which can only be addressed effectively at the national level.

Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Environment Virginia, National Audubon, and the Pew Environment Group are helping to sponsor a question and answer town hall style forum for Northern Virginia residents to hear directly from local business leaders, scientists, and elected officials.

Come to the City of Fairfax Regional Library on February 18th to hear from Northern Virginia’s newest member of Congress, Fairfax’ own Gerry Connolly, about his plans for global warming legislation during this session of Congress.
