Grist.org Hey, EPA, even if Grist's David Roberts doesn't agree with everything these EPA lawyers are saying, we still think trying to censor them is uncool.

Source: www.grist.org
Laurie Williams and Allan Zabel are EPA attorneys who have taken up advocating against cap-and-trade on behalf of rebated carbon taxes, most recently in a Washington Post op-ed. They also posted a video to YouTube making many of the same arguments at somewhat greater length. ...

Grist.org How to talk to everyday Americans about climate change ... learn with cartoons!

Source: www.grist.org
Getting Americans to wake up to the reality of climate change is no easy task. But experts at Columbia University believe a mix of psychology, anthropology, and behavioral economics can help, and they've written a guide with cartoons showing how.

Grist.org Watch actor & funnyman Aziz Ansari (NBC's Parks & Recreation) talk about the ideal carbon footprint size and other, ahem, important green issues.

Source: www.youtube.com
Aziz Ansari is funny. An actor and comedian, you may have seen Aziz on NBC's Parks and Recreation or MTV's Human Giant. If you haven't seen him, see him here when he talks with Grist about his involvement with the Kyoto Protocol and what he's doing to lessen his carbon foot and handprints.

Grist.org Endocrine disruption, meet political corruption. Are you worried about BPA in consumer and food products?

Source: www.grist.org
Bisphenol A, commonly abbreviated as BPA, is vile stuff--not the kind of thing a smart species knowingly introduces into its ecosystem. Tom Philpott marvels that we're doing just that---and storing food in it, no less.

Longtime Grist reporter Amanda Little has written a book, and we're throwing a party to celebrate! OK, we're really crashing a perfectly respectable reading and then co-hosting a reception afterwards.

Please join us to hear Amanda read about her adventures through America's energy landscape, then stay to chat with her a...nd other Grist staff members.

Grist.org Famed PolyFace farmer Joel Salatin confesses that he drinks raw milk sold illegally on the underground market and questions why we collectively consider Twinkies "safer" foods. Any raw milk aficionados out there?

Source: www.grist.org
Isn't it curious that at this juncture in our culture's evolution, we collectively believe Twinkies, Lucky Charms, and Coca-Cola are safe foods, but compost-grown tomatoes and raw milk are not. With legislation moving through Congress demanding that all agricultural practices be

How and Why?

The White House has nominated Mr. Siddiqui for the position of chief agricultural negotiator in the office of the United States trade representative. He is presently a vice president at CropLife America, a coalition of the major industrial players in the pesticide industry, including Syngenta, Monsanto, Dow... Chemical and DuPont. That job doesn’t seem to square with the Obama administration’s professed interest in more sustainable, less chemically dependent approaches to agricultureRead more

President Obama’s nominee for the nation’s chief agricultural negotiator should represent a broad view of American agriculture.

Tom, I thought you might find this interesting. American Farm Bureau Federation $1.5 million grant from USDA.

http://www.fb.org/index.php?fuseaction=newsroom.newsfocus&year=2009&file=nr1105.html

Reaction to Vilsack's nomination from agricultural groups was largely positive and included "endorsements" from the Corn Refiners Association, the National Grain and Feed Association, the National Farmers Union, the American Farm Bureau Federation, and the Environmental Defense Fund. ... Read more

Opposition to the nomination came from the Organic Consumers Association.

I keep my friends close and my enemies closer. I am a 'fan' of most of the opposition groups to pesticide reform. I watch the American Farm Bureau Federation and others very closely. I've been able to weed out the rats much easier this way. :)

Laura Henry-Stone Why is Grist running campaign ads for Bob McDonnell on its website? He's the anti-environment candidate: http://hamptonroads.com/2009/09/deeds-mcdonnell-split-over-environmental-policy. It's disturbing, and if Grist is that desperate for money, then we all need to pony-up so they're not forced to stoop so low. I'm hoping someone can tell me something about McDonnell that I don't know.
