The Recession sucks, it really does, but the ongoing man-made horrors in Palestine make our problems look a bit minor, don't they? Through the power of music, the 'One Concert - Two Cities' fundraiser at Tripod will push us to think beyond our backyard as Irish musicians Liam Ó Maonlaí, Lumiere, Kíla, Naisrin and Zahar...a El Safty join hands with Palestinian hip-hop diva Shadia Mansour and political activist MC Lowkey, backed by the Dublin-based Discovery Gospel Choir, to raise much-needed money for re-building of Gaza city. The concerts are broadcasted live in Gaza as representation of a long-lasting friendship between the two cities and Gaza inhabitants will share their stories on the big-screen. Lets unite in the fight for justice and stability, dig into our pockets and show the occupied civilians, whose houses and hospitals have been bombed, schools destroyed and husbands, wives and children killed that Dubliners haven't forgotten about them.

DUBLIN TO GAZA One Concert - Two Cities 16TH October 2009 @ Tripod, Dublin On 16th October, Dublin will extend the hand of friendship to the besieged city of Gaza when a very special concert will be transmitted live from Tripod in Dublin and beamed LIVE to Gaza City – Two cities, One concert. Celebrated Irish mu...sicians Liam Ó Maonlaí, Lumiere, Kíla, Naisrin and Zahara El Safty will be joined on the bill by Palestinian singer Shadia Mansour, Dublin based Discovery Gospel Choir who will perform with renowned Iraqi/English Rapper MC Lowkey. A night of brilliant music with a big message, the concert will be broadcast live on a big screen in Gaza city allowing the people of Gaza to enjoy the concert in Dublin and they in turn will say something to the Irish audience. The evening will celebrate culture and use the power of music to unite people both here in Ireland and in the besieged city of Gaza. The organizers hope to focus attention on the ongoing siege in Gaza and also raise much needed funds for its rebuilding. Despite 5 billion in aid pledged to Gaza, none of it has yet reached it’s people. Access to the city is mininimal, a complex system of tunnels surrounding Gaza known as the lungs of Gaza, is how all food, medicine, fuel and animals gain entry to the city. The tunnels are built by ‘siege breakers’, many of whom have been killed , their lives are in constant danger due the random bombings and collapsing tunnels. The people of Gaza are completely isolated from the international world, they cannot leave and now as a result of an almost total blockade people cannot enter. This special night offers a unique opportunity to show support for their plight, as they face another winter struggling with limited shelter and aid. Filmmaker Dearbhla Glynn (Dust Devils, Dambé – The Mali Project), recently returned from filming in Gaza and will screen some of her footage from this visit, showing the remaining devastation nine months on from the January attacks. Irish activist Caoimhe Butterly will also speak on the night about her experience working on the ambulances during the January attacks in Gaza. Due to live link up with Gaza the concert must start early! Gaza is two hours ahead. The Deputies met Irishman Mr. John Ging the Agency’s Head of Mission in Gaza and saw for themselves the appalling humanitarian effects Israel’s military action and persistent refusal to end its blockade is having. As a result the delegation has called for the immediate opening of crossings into Gaza for unimpeded humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials. According to Amnesty International, aside from 5,000 people wounded, a total of 1,400 Palestinians were killed during Israel's operation, 900 of whom were civilians including 300 children. Most of the cases researched involved women and children casualties.Read more
