Yes but reality says we all enjoy cheap travel and there is no way we should make it the priviledge of the rich again. If we are all prepared to seriously do our bit, from turning off all lights not in use to walking to the shops occasionally then we can acheive far more than all the world Governments will EVER manage in aviation. People power!

Important as it is though, with a large proportion of the electorate turning their backs on Labour (as we saw the other week in the EU elections) that kind of thing I doubt will be enough to reconvince voters to vote for Labour - as the government in power they are the scapegoat for all the problems at the moment, it's headway in reducing those ... the above should refer to the policies set out under the new deal. abusing the welfare system is substantially more difficult now than pre-1997. studying the actually policy in place as opposed to the media can be quite enlightening.

Why is it that whenever people talk about the Benefits system, they speak of laziness etc. A small percentage of people claiming may be fidling the system, but for many there is no other choice. A vast improvement, especially staff being directly employed, but I do wonder about an attendance allowance being open to at least the perception of abuse (as in the European Parliament). Far better to just have a flat salary premium for those outside commuting distance, enough for them to cover either hotel rooms, a flat rental/share or purchase as they see fit.
