Equity: LETTER FROM STEPHEN SPENCE - SUB REP CAMPAIGN
LETTER FROM STEPHEN SPENCE - SUB REP CAMPAIGN
DEAR MEMBER,
Negotiations are continuing in subsidised theatre with the Theatrical Management Association and whilst these negotiations are held in confidence, it is unlikely to come as a surprise that, as always, it is no easy task to advance the Union’s agenda particularly in these difficult economic times. These negotiations are taking longer than is traditional, precisely because the Union is attempting to put forward such an ambitious programme.
Equity is currently involved in discussions with our branches, committees, regional and national offices to develop the Union’s campaign strategy to ensure that Equity can back up the negotiation process with campaigning activity on a UK wide basis. We will need this to ensure the employers do engage with us more.
Whilst we continue with this process any suggestions you may have for developing our campaigning activity would be welcome.
As the inflation measure of RPI is currently in the negative, there is at least in the short term no erosion of current minimum wage levels.
Involvement of Equity members in all of the Union’s campaigning and negotiation activity is crucial to the likely success of our activity and your interest in subsidised repertory is most warmly welcomed.
If you have any ideas or comments please e-mail hhadley@equity.org.uk.
Yours in solidarity,
STEPHEN SPENCE
Assistant General Secretary
