League Against Cruel Sports: League supporters send 2,500 emails in protest of cruellest bullfighting event

League supporters send 2,500 emails in protest of cruellest bullfighting event
Earlier this week, the Toro de la Vega, one of the cruellest bullfighting events in Spain, took place in Tordesillas, Valladolid. During the annual event, a bull is forced to cross a bridge by villagers who taunt it and tease it with spears. Once it has crossed, men with lances, either on horseback or on foot, take aim at the bull and spear it. Finally, after hours of agony, the man that deals the fatal blow is proclaimed the winner.

League supporters sent more than 2,500 emails in protest to the regional interior minister , Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, and the Valladolid tourist office, urging Mr Mañueco to revoke the license for the event. Unfortunately, the outpouring of protest couldn’t stop it from happening on this occasion. But politicians have undoubtedly taken note of the impressive international opposition and will hopefully reconsider before issuing a license next year.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the e-mail protest.
