It was an uncertain spring. The weather, perpetually changing, sent clouds of blue and of purple flying over the land. In the country farmers, looking at the fields, were apprehensive; in London umbrellas were opened and then shut by people looking up at the sky...

Mrs. Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself. For Lucy had her work cut out for her. The doors would be taken off their hinges; Rumpelmayer's men were coming. And then, thought Clarissa Dalloway, what a morning--fresh as if issued to children on a beach. What a lark! What a plunge...

Adeline Virginia Woolf née Stephen Those of you who are interested in modernist novels in general might be interested in the new fan page of Dorothy Richardson at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dorothy-Miller-Richardson/44897739556
There you can find information about Richardson (one of the most important and most neglected among the modernist novelists) and the first chapter of her novel Pilgrimage.

Adeline Virginia Woolf née Stephen Rey: I just added the Death of the Moth on the notes. Enjoy reading.

Sara: No, Hogarth Press does not exist anymore but it has been an associate of Chatto and Windus since 1947 and Chatto and Windus has been an imprint of Random house since 1987.

The full story is that John Lehmann, who became a partner in the Press af...ter Virginia Woolf relinquished her interest in 1938, terminated his partnership in 1946. Leonard Woolf sold Lehmann's share to the directors of Chatto & Windus in London, a distinguished name in literary publishing. Since 1946, the Hogarth Press has been an allied company of Chatto & Windus, and it has continued to publish in the tradition of Virginia and Leonard Woolf. Adeline Virginia Woolf née Stephen Sara: Reading all of Woolf's diaries you read a lot of information about Woolf's life and her relationships with her servants, family and friends. I found them fascinating but I am a Woolf fan.

If you are interested about her life it is a must. I add some excerpts in the notes section to give you and idea.
