Emma

Emma we ran the May 09 Bupa Great Edinburgh Run and I can safely say its been one of my top ten highlights of this year so far...got my second wind for the last 2K so that was a serious bonus on that hill !!!!

Shona Watson

Shona Watson Did it last year for the first time and was SOOOO annoyed to get a time of 1 hr and 49 seconds, so this year I'm definitely gunna beat that hour!

Jayne

Jayne I really enjoyed this years run - my first time and well chuffed to do in 55min whilst raising some cash for the National Autistic Society. I have entered for next year's race on the 2nd May, and also booked in for the Great Winter Run 5K at Holyrood Park. A year ago 400m was long distance to me - can't believe I actually enjoy running now !

Hopefully next years race will be better organised than this year. I still enjoyed it though :)

Yea, it was busy at the start and finish because of the change from the Meadows. I thought it gave a real City centre feel to the event though, so guess it's swings and roundabouts really! Was still a great event - even though, as other people say, not one to go for a PB in! There's a report on my blog at http://2009mi...les.org.uk/2009/05/great-day-out-in-edinburgh.html if anyone fancies a read ... well done to everyone who took part!Read more

It's a real shame there were so many problems this year. I've done this race a few times before and agree that it was definately better starting/finishing in the meadows. Perhaps they changed it just for the benefit of tv? As well as the bottleneck at the finish line, it was also a bit of a squeeze getting from the fin...ish area back up to the baggage buses. Didn't seem to be any problem with the timing recorded by my chip, but did anyone else find it a bit of a hassle to get the thing off?! I think that might have added to the bottleneck. The velcro strap ones they used to have which go round your ankle were much easier!Read more

Simon Byrne Had a cracking day out. Really enjoyed the run, the sunshine, the views and atmosphere. I'm sure the organisers have taken note for next year. Thank you to all the volunteers for their efforts and the crowds who turned out to cheer us all on.

I heard that there were real problems with bottlenecks from some friends who started further back. I was lucky in that I started at the front of the orange wave and wasn't held up at all. I always make sure to arrive early and get close to the front with races fielding so many runners. Agree that mass participation eve...nts on tough courses are not the place to get PBs (I was over 2 minutes outside a PB I set a few weeks ago in Grangemouth, but it is still outrageous in any racing event to have people forced to walk early on. At least the organisation wasn't as shambolic as the Edinburgh half marathon this year!Read more

To all those moaning about not setting their PB... what were you expecting? Edinburgh's well-known for its hilly, narrow, cobbly streets, it's a mass participation event in a city centre... it's not PB material in the slightest. Do a local 10K on a flat course if you're wanting to set a PB. Having said that, thought th...ey should have had the start and finish in The Meadows again. Bottlenecks at the start were rubbish and meant it took a minute or two to get into my swing. The people sitting on the benches in Princes Street Gardens with their legs stretched out were a nightmare.Read more

Lisa Jarvis

Lisa Jarvis Initial chip time was 1 minute faster than my Garmin, but website has been adjusted and now is still about 30 secs slower than my timing???

Completely agree with all the criticisms made of this years run. I too have just checked my time again and it has gone up by a full minute since I checked it yesterday! Neither time logged by the chip corroborated with my Nike Plus by 2 full minutes!!!! The bottlenecks at the start were a real disappointment and mad...e it difficult to get in to the the first 1-2km smoothly. The latter half of the run was great (between 6-8km), but again have to agree with comments already made about the APPAULING CHAOS at the finish line. A real shame will be sticking to the Manchester & Sheffield runs from now on.....Read more
