- "Climate change is perhaps the gravest calamity our species has ever encountered. Its impact dwarfs that of any war, any plague, any famine we have confronted so far. It makes genocide and ethnic cleansing look like sideshows at the circus of human suffering."
"We need to put climate change right at the top of the political agenda — it is by far the biggest threat to humanity. We have to turn this into the primary political campaign. That means keeping on the streets, keeping up the demonstrations and putting an enormous amount of pressure on our politicians."
George Monbiot.
NATIONAL CLIMATE MARCH 2008 - 6TH DECEMBER
We're now focusing on the next National Climate March, part of the Global Day of Action on climate, which this year will be on 6th December, during the UN climate talks in Poznan, Poland.
This year’s UN climate talks are CRITICAL as they’re our last chance to really influence the outcome of the talks - and make sure we have a really strong Post-Kyoto agreement. The agreement will be finalised next year in the Copenhagen UN climate talks, but most delegates will have chosen their position by then.
We’re working hard on the Global Climate Campaign, our sister campaign, to make sure that as many countries as possible join us in calling for a strong agreement on the Global Day of Action. Last year 70 countries were involved on the Global Day of Action, we’re expecting more to be involved this year on December 6th, and we need to make sure that the UK part of it, the National Climate March, is bigger than ever.
