THE EVENT:
Chain Reaction is an annual event on social leadership which brings people together from across the world to explore how we are connected, how we can use those connections in positive ways and how we can maximise our collective power to change the world.
In 2008 the first Chain Reaction attracted social leaders, community activists, policy makers, business leaders, and young people from around the globe to share learning and to generate new ideas for social change, locally, nationally and globally.
We were thrilled with the success - over 1,000 people, from 16 countries, at least one quarter aged under 21, community activists and artists, social entrepreneurs, bloggers and techies with new tools to try out, business leaders (among others, CEOs from Royal Mail, BBC, IBM, CBI, BITC and Accenture) and a roll call of Ministers - including Lord Mandelson and the Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Chain Reaction 2009 will take place at Canary Wharf in London on 12-13 November.
This year’s event must reflect the huge changes in the world economy which have occurred since we last met. What can we learn, locally and globally, from this experience and how might we emerge from recession with not only a reinvigorated economy but also happier, healthier, stronger communities? Senior Government Ministers will be joining us and we are again gathering a mixture of world class speakers together with voices from the ground – community groups, young people and practical activists.
