Tracey We went for shriek week and stayed till late,the zoo was so different in the dark.Just bought the year pass as the kids love colchester and we r an hour and a half drive away. Well done on the new orang-u-tan enclosure it is brilliant.

Yes Leoni had been unwell for a couple of days and despite veterinary treatment she sadly died on the 29th October. A post mortem revealed that a growth around one of her valves lead to heart failure and death. She is greatly missed by everyone at the zoo.

Katharine Grundy How many squirrel monkeys does the zoo have?! There seems to be enclosures everywhere for them, and when I visited last week I noticed two baby squirrels monkeys clinging on to adults, and what looked like a pregnant squirrel monkey!

We currently have 18 Squirrel Monkeys including the three new arrivals! Two were born on the 27th October and 1 was born on the 30th October!

The spider monkeys have not currently had any new arrivals, but the squirrel monkeys have had 3, two born on the 27th of October and 1 born on the 30th!

Beth Me and my eldest daughter who is 3 are gold card holders and was wondering when we can go to Santas grotto and whether it costs anything for her to see him and receive a present all the literature I have read have said its free can you confirm this?

If you and your daughter have a valid gold card and she did not receive a present last year you will both be able to come to the zoo and she can receive a present from santa at no extra charge. The dates for the magic of Christmas event this year are the 28th & 29th Nov, 5th & 6th Dec, 12th & 13th Dec, and the 17th until the 24th Dec, 2009. Hope this helps!
