At an Awards Ceremony Dinner at Christ Church in Spitalfields, London, on Thursday 25 June 2009, Columba 1400 was pronounced winner of the Upper Tier Category of the “Bank of Scotland Corporate Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2009.”
Columba 1400 was awarded with Bank of Scotland's Upper Tier Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award at an awards ceremony in London on Thursday 25th June.
Columba 1400 is delighted to have been chosen as one of the three ‘upper tier category’ finalists in the prestigious Bank of Scotland Corporate Social Entrepreneur Awards 2009. The announcement of which was made in an article in The Sunday Times on 21 June 2009.
On Friday 19 June 2009 we were pleased to welcome, amongst other distinguished guests, David Young, President, and Gordon Ash from the West of Scotland Wooden Spoon Society for the formal Opening of the new all-weather sports pitch at Columba 1400, Staffin.
Four energetic and generous people from Dundas Wilson volunteer their time and effort to raise money for Columba, running in the Edinburgh Marathon.
The Wooden Spoon Sports Pitch is excitingly underway with a planned opening date of mid June. Most of the major build work has now been completed and the delicate work of layering the surface, installing the floodlights and laying the turf is currently in progress....
What a remarkable sight - 40 adults kicking off their shoes and launching themselves into the exciting task of creating personal collages with the same level of youthful enthusiasm they might expect to witness in the classrooms of their own schools .....

Help Columba 1400 raise the funds that we desperately need to continue our work with young people from tough realities - become a fundraiser through JustGiving, our secure online fundraising site. Anyone can do it, and it's really fun!
Columba 1400
The Columba staff team invites you and your friends/family to join us in a Ridge Walk from the Old Man of Storr to the Fairy Glen. We have also invited people in our local community to support us on this walk too.
This will be an opportunity to reconnect with friends and memories; to re-explore your Core Values (whilst ...walking up the Storr) and to share with us and the community what has been happening for you since your academy.
We are hoping to raise £1,500 in order to invite at least one young person up onto a Young Person’s Leadership Academy. Any sponsorship or donations you can gather will go directly towards this. In addition, every mile walked by each person will help the Columban staff team to raise funds by eliciting match funding per mile walked from local businesses.
The walk will take place on Saturday 23rd August and will take about seven hours to complete.
The walk is approximately 18km (7 miles) and will end with a BBQ at the Fairy Glen to celebrate our achievement!
Transport will be provided both at the starting and finishing points. A £5 entry fee would contribute to BBQ and transport costs.
Please RSVP by the 4th July so that we can send you out more detailed information and a sponsorship form. We encourage you to make your own travel/accommodation arrangements, however if that is a barrier to your involvement, please let us know and we will do our best to support that.
