Mark Morris Dance Group
Excursions - Italian Concerto - Bedtime - Grand Duo
Master of American contemporary dance, Mark Morris has become the benchmark of inspiration for a generation of dancers, choreographers and audiences. Music is always at the heart of Morris' work, and this comes alive through movement as his dance...rs travel in beautiful sweeping pathways across the stage.
The Company of 18 dancers will perform four pieces, one of which is entirely new to British audiences - Excursions with live piano music composed by Samuel Barber. In addition to this will be Italian Concerto, set to music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Bedtime with music by Franz Schubert and Grand Duo, always a hit with audiences around the world, with live piano and violin music by Lou Harrison.
Having created dances for almost thirty years, Morris' work travels from the austere to the joyful, and can switch in mood from the deeply stirring to the downright silly. Mark Morris and his group of dancers never fail to surprise, sooth and excite - which is why they are firm favourites with UK audiences.
'One of the great choreographers of our time.' Mikhail Baryshnikov
'There is no other dance company so at one with its choreography and with its music."' The Financial Times
'Some of the best dance in the world today.. see it if you can.' The Independent
'Morris is our Mozart of modern dance.' The Washington Post
