Digital Marketing Manchester
Econsultancy and Manchester Digital is hosting another popular “Digital Shorts” event on 4th February, 2009.

Two years ago Ian Jindal called "downturn" in Manchester while reviewing the e-commerce prospects for 2007. This time, Ian will cover some developments that are more upbeat and which will gain traction a little s...ooner than two years. Fresh from one of the most tense peak seasons in our brief e-commerce history Ian will review the Christmas trading, the winners, losers and considerations for digital businesses in 2009. Ian will also develop a favourite theme of behavioural data and interaction to propose a model to consider, anticipate and exploit the phenomena that arise from new uses of data.

Topics broached will include:

Christmas trading results - winners, losers and lessons for e-commerce in 2009

Reprise of data, metadata and mashups - where did all the Web 2.0 promise go?

Discussion of the new economic models that could emerge from behavioural and "attention" metadata - the 'attention economy'?

A proposed model to consider and anticipate networked data interaction - phenomena and epiphenomena

Ian Jindal is a consultant, publisher and advisor, working in e-commerce for over a decade - in integrated retail, publishing and broadcast. He launched InternetRetailing, the magazine, portal and conference for the UK's etailers and multichannel retailers. Previously he was Group e-commerce Director for Littlewoods Shop Direct Group where he grew online revenues to £400m per annum.

Ian’s presentation will finish by 7:45pm, leaving plenty of time for networking over the wine and canapés. Seats are limited so make sure you book early to reserve your place.

A Digital Marketing Lecture with Bill Daring, CEO of KMP

Most of the UK's population is now online - blogging, chatting, visiting message boards and exchanging news and views. The introduction of web 2.0 and the implications of social networks have encouraged a change in marketing methods. We need to understand commen...t generated on the internet, and new ways of distributing our own content.

The PR industry has changed very little over recent years, and is the one area of Marketing that has been left behind. Whilst the PR industry is still using the existing process of building news, writing reports, schmoozing, and broadcasting messages to anyone with an inbox, marketing professionals have been busy developing much more exciting and efficient methods of delivering content.

A Social Media Release is an on line news release designed to complement the traditional press release by addressing a more interactive social media audience. It is a different proposition from “targeted distribution” of news, and is much more about "syndicated distribution".

Bill Daring will explain how to maximise syndication via social bookmarking and targeted social media sites; how to manage external blog comments, and even more useful, help you to understand these comments and use this information to help you gain a competitive advantage over your competitors.

There will be plenty of time for questions and networking drinks straight afterwards at The Bull's Head on the corner of London and Fairfield opposite Piccadilly Station.

About Bill:

Bill Daring is the Chairman and CEO of KMP, one of the most successful independent digital agencies in the UK. Bill is responsible for developing new business and KMP's strategic and technical partnerships.

He founded KMP in 1991, after over a decade in the advertising and PR industry. During the late 1990’s, KMP pioneered the use of multimedia in websites, so much so that Macromedia commissioned KMP to build the Shockwave (precursor of Flash) website. In 1997 he established one of the most successful biotechnology community sites - biofind.com - a web 2.0 pioneer, which is still the market leader today.

Bill's current interests include social media, web 2.0 applications and PR 2.0. KMP has recently launched PressRoom, a social media release template, soon to become a basic PR 2.0 tool for PR agencies.

About KMP:

KMP is one of the UK's leading digital agencies. We specialise in innovative web design, content management, e-commerce systems, intranets, broadcast marketing (e.g., email, sms, ivm and video) and social media marketing. KMP have been digital partners to leading brands since 1994 and clients include British Gas, Direct Line, Manchester Airports Group, Makro, Littlewoods Shop Direct and Chester Zoo. KMP provide creative ideas, leading edge technology, creative and IT support and "thought leadership" for marketing and IT specialists alike.

On 8th July Manchester Digital held their first ever social event at Dukes 92 and over 80 people attended in what turned out to be a highly enjoyable evening for all. The event attracted a mix of people representing companies and individuals/freelancers who reported having met various contacts that could become custome...rs, suppliers, employees/employers and many also caught up with old friends.

On 8th October 2008 they're hosting their second event which will this time be at Bar Ça in Castlefield, starting at 6pm until....... They've hired the whole ground floor of the bar for the event, including the massive outdoor terrace area.

Included in the ticket cost is a buffet serving hot and cold snacks.

Whether you're a Manchester Digital member or not, everyone is welcome to come along and relax/socialise/network in an informal setting. Members of the Manchester Digital Council will also be in attendence if you want to come along to find out how Manchester Digital can help you.

Advance tickets cost just £10 + VAT for Manchester Digital members, £15 + VAT for non-members.

Click on the link to EventBrite to reserve and pay for your ticket!

Last one of the summer! We thought we wouldn't have any formal speakers this time or book somewhere posh and noisy.

You will recognise us (if you haven't seen us before). Probably downstairs early on but may go upstairs later if there's room or we need to.

As usual - the format will be drinks with chat about anything you... like in the field - SEO, SEM, PPC, and any other acronyms you fancy: remember people have got jobs out of these events :-) Get some networking with the people in the game. Get some advice. Have a beer. Learn something new. Make new friends. Whatever you fancy - let's have a good time. Join us at our regular and useful event at Odder Bar on Oxford Road. For those who haven’t already signed up, this is a reminder that Mancehster Digital will be running another one of our popular Manchester Digital Shorts evening events with E-consultancy next week, 16th July, at Tiger Tiger in the centre of Manchester.

The guest speaker for the summer session is Colin Elms, UK Managing ...Director at EyeWonder. Colin will be discussing the opportunity interactive advertising creates for advertisers and agencies and asking: is banner advertising dead?

Using a number of case studies Colin will explore the rise of interactive digital advertising and how you can fully leverage the technology to generate entirely new levels of brand awareness, loyalty and engagement by engaging in two way dialogues with consumers.

The presentation will be followed by wine and canapés, with the opportunity to pick Colin’s brain and do some serious networking. With the price still only £25 per head (+VAT), this promises to be a useful and enjoyable event.
