Friends of Foster Care Training is on again this week, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Anyone living in or near Melbourne's East who is interested in coming along should call 1300 889 335.

Friends of Foster Care
The Friends of Foster Care program is currently seeking Friends volunteers to be matched with the following children and/or young people and their foster families.
1. A Friend needed is to support a Year 7 girl who plays netball on Saturdays. The Friends volunteer would meet the aspiring young star at her carer’s h...ome, drive her to the courts & watch the game before heading back.
2. A Friend is needed to support a foster family by providing one-on-one time with children in the foster carer’s home. This busy household would greatly benefit from having a Friend who can read books to children, play board games, help with homework and supervise children while the carer cooks dinner and other household chores.
These are just two examples of the many ways Friends can support foster care. Friends are matched according to their abilities, lifestyles, interests and strengths. Call 1300 889 335 for more information.

This free training package is offered to anyone wishing to become involved in supporting foster care programs. Whether you can offer mentorship, tutoring, child-minding, gardening or transport this training will help you understand what foster care is all about and talk about some of the expereinces of children in care....
You need to be over 18 (in most cases) and live in or near Melbourne's Eastern Region, be warm and friendly and be passionate about making a difference in the life of children in care.

The next Friends training session is coming up and there are still places available. Training is the first step to becoming involved as a volunteer supporting foster children and/or their carers. Attending training will help you understand how foster care works, understan...ding of the experiences foster children and insight into the parents' perspectives.
Training is free and everyone is welcome.
