Funny Women has launched a new series of talent showcases at the Leicester Square Theatre in London on the second Sunday of the month:, next show - 8th November, then 13th December 2009, 10th January, 14th February and 14th March 2010. The shows feature the best of female comedy from seven years of the Funny Women Awa...rds and beyond.

Our next show features two previous winners, the fantastic Suzy Bennett (2006), who will host the evening, and Katherine Ryan (2008) our headline act – plus sketch, character and stand up a plenty.

Plus 2009 Funny Women Awards finalists Domestic Goddi and Catherine Semark

Also featuring: Dory Dutton, Leanne Stott, Hannah Warman, Kerry Herbert and Charlotte Brown

Proceeds from the night will go to V-Day: Until the Violence Stops, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls.

This year's competition has shown such a high level of talent. So much so that we are cramming in a Semi-Final where we will narrow it down to 10 acts to partake in a Funny Women Final so funny, you'll get a workout just sitting there!


Semis take place on Monday 7th September, but there was so much talent, we are doing ...2 shows in one night!

Organisers of the Funny Women Awards are to continue their search for this year’s crop of new female comedy talent in the Midlands and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. There will be a run of heats at the Assembly Rooms on Friday 7th, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August over the first weekend of the Festival.

Each show... will start at 7.35pm at the Assembly Rooms, and the acts will collectively have an hour to showcase their talent, which will be eventually narrowed down and judged at the Funny Women Awards Show Final!

Funny Women is proud to be a major part of the inaugural London Bridge Festival, from Friday 10th to Saturday 25th July where they continue their search for this year’s crop of new female comedy talent and present a show featuring 2006 Funny Women Awards winner, Suzy Bennett and special guests.

After 3 successful night...s of Showcases at The Wheatsheaf already (11th, 16th and 18th July), there's still a chance to watch the last 2 showcases at London Bridge before the Awards Show in August! (Thursday 23rd and Saturday 25th July).

The Y in Leicester plays host to the Midlands heat on Saturday 1st August and, for those who are not yet brave enough to perform, Funny Women will be running a workshop at the venue during t...he afternoon.

“The Y is a really female-friendly venue and, due to demand, we are also running a comedy workshop on the same day between 3.00 and 5.00 p.m. The show will be hosted by everybody’s best friend, Suzy Bennett, who won the Funny Women Awards in 2006.”

What is it all about?
Funny Women is celebrating International Women’s Day for the sixth year running on Sunday 8th March 2009 with a fantastic new show, Celebrity Funny Women. A host of female celebrities face the challenge of becoming a funny woman, with the help of some of Funny Women’s favourite comedians. Well-loved personalities will step out of their comfort zone and perform a short stand-up set in front of a live audience. Plus more comedy and music.
Blue Peter legend Janet Ellis is teamed with impressionist Jan Ravens. PR guru and author Lynne Franks finds her funny bone with Shazia Mirza. LBC presenter Jeni Barnett tries her hand at stand up alongside sassy American Tanyalee Davis. Funny Women Awards winner 2007 Andi Osho, magician and comedian Mandy Muden… and more to be confirmed.

Also featuring music from Vaginal Tap and Adams & Rea, and Funny Women Awards winners, Suzy Bennett (2006) and Katherine Ryan (2008).

Who is it for?
Box office proceeds raised at Celebrity Funny Women will be donated to our beneficiary charity ActionAid, which works to protect, empower and inspire women and girls to achieve their full potential.
This year’s charity gala supports the charity’s Put Your Foot Down campaign highlighting the link between violence against women and the spread of HIV and AIDS. ActionAid is asking the UK public to donate their shoes as a reminder to the UK Government to put their foot down and stop both the threat of violence and HIV and AIDS faced by women in the developing world.
To really put our stamp on the message we request that guests wear colourful and unusual shoes.
