Jonathan Kay - World Famous Fool
What is it?
A one-year intensive training course for both artists and professionals with the world famous fool Jonathan Kay in his unique Fooling Technique.
What is the Commitment?
Ten days a month for ten months throughout the year in various locations around the UK and Europe.
How Much Does it Cost?
All of Jonathan Kay’s ...work is run on a donation basis. This does not mean it is free, it means it is up to you, the participant, to put a value to the commitment you are making. This work is priceless and also available to everyone, so your contribution comes from how much you can afford and how much you want to get out of it. The Academy works as a Team to keep the work going and to support itself. We do not have funding, just the will and financial support of ourselves.
Who is Jonathan Kay?
Jonathan Kay is a Master of his art, a World Famous Performer, and Director of the Nomadic Academy of Fools, an Academy set up for Professionals and Artists looking to develop themselves creatively, emotionally, and professionally.
Having spent the last 36 years developing his unique performance technique, called ‘Fooling’, Jonathan Kay is a national treasure and a competent guide into the realms of the unknown. His technique unlocks your creative potential and reinvigorates all areas of your life, especially your inspiration and your relationship to both your self and others around you.
What is a Fool?
A Fool is someone who utters truths that no one else dares to speak. By learning to connect to the inner Fool in all of us we find a new freedom to speak to our inner selves in ways we did not think possible through the tangled web of life. In finding this freedom we also discover that everyone else in the world is as scared, sacred, and scarred as we are, therefore opening up a space for you to communicate with those around with a new generosity and a freedom of expression.
What Will I Get Out of the Training?
This work develops your confidence in public speaking, teaching you to speak to the silent aspects of your audience by connecting you with your silent you, so that everyone in the room feels safe to express themselves freely, without the usual defence mechanisms in play.
You will learn to use all aspects of yourself as tools of play, freeing you from your stories so that the audience can free themselves from theirs. In doing so you discover that you are not created by the world, but have the power to create the world yourself, powerfully and without inhibition.
This year long training is a big commitment, a daring leap into the unknown, and in taking up the challenge you will find insights and new possibilities that have hitherto been hidden from you by the humdrums of everyday life.
There is the opportunity for you to continue working with Jonathan even after the year is up. The Academy’s intention is to develop Jonathan Kay’s work beyond simply the training, forming a company of professionals who are competent in using his Fooling technique to develop work as a company who tour with shows, workshops, talks, and projects of your own, with the potential to earn money and forge a career influenced by the training and allowing this foolish view of life to infiltrate all areas of society. This is not just a performance technique, but also a liberating perspective of the world.
Even if you chose to just train for the year and not continue with the company, this work will revolutionise your game play and open up your everyday professional and personal life for both yourself and those around you.
Already we have worked with a large cross section of society, training Barristers, Midwives, Teachers, Landscape Gardeners, Teachers, Youth Workers, and a wide cross section of Artists including an Opera Singer
How Do I Apply?
Go to the Nomadic Academy Page at www.jonathankay.co.uk and download the information pack and application form. Read through the information, fill in the form and email back to info@jonathankay.co.uk
There will be a weekend audition held at The Sustainability Centre in Hampshire Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June. You will be expected to make your way to the centre and to camp for the weekend, giving you a chance to experience the nomadic quality of the Academy and also for you to spend time with the Fools who have spent the last year training with Jonathan Kay and who will be mentoring you next year. On the Saturday you will all take part in a days workshop with Jonathan Kay and each have the opportunity to get up and audition a short 10min example of who you are and the kind of work you do. Not all of you have performed before, so this audition piece may seem daunting, but it is simply a chance for you to show us who you are and what you have spent your time and energy on throughout your life. If you’re a poet then tell us some of your poetry, if you are a teacher tell us about your favourite subject to teach, if you are a doctor tell us what excites you about medicine or a time when you really made a difference in someone’s life. It is a chance for you to share your passion with us. On the Sunday you will meet with Jolie Pierce, Director of Fooling, who runs the school for Jonathan Kay, to discuss the financial and time commitment to the training.
