Biography now includes Elisabeth Meister (formerly Elizabeth Franklin-Kitchen) is a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In 2003 Elisabeth won second prize in the Kathleen Ferrier Awards. In the same year she also won second prize at the Haverhill Sinfonia Intern...ational Soloists Competition, becoming the highest placed singer in the history of the competition. She is a recipient of the 2008 Susan Chilcott Scholarship.
Opera
During the 2009/10 season, for the Royal Opera, Elisabeth will perform the roles of Pale Lady The Gambler, High Priestess Aida and Rooster/Jay Cunning Little Vixen. In addition she will cover the title roles Der Rosenkavalier and Aida, also Polina The Gambler, Fox Vixen and Amelia Simon Boccanegra. Previous roles include Amy Davenport Cremenville (Pete M Wyer) for Sharpwire, Fiordiligi Cosí Fan Tutte and Elisabetta (cover) Maria Stuarda both for English Touring Opera, Countess Figaro for Amici Opera, all eight roles of Judith Weir’s King Harald’s Saga, Mimí La Bohème and Marianna Il Signor Bruschino for Opera Barga in Tuscany and Woglinde Das Rheingold. During 2009 she will work with composer Mark-Anthony Turnage and librettist Richard Thomas in preparation of Turnage’s new opera Anna Nicole Smith, the title role of which she will cover at the Royal Opera in 2011.
Concert
Highlights of Elisabeth’s concert work include a performance with the Ulster Orchestra of Haydn Creation in Belfast’s Ulster Hall, conducted by Jan Schultsz. She has performed the soprano solos in Bernstein Chichester Psalms with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under Marin Alsop, Mozart Requiem at the Royal Albert Hall under Sir David Willcocks and Verdi Requiem at Canterbury Cathedral under Howard Ionascu and again under Richard Cooke. A frequent artist at St John’s, Smith Square, Elisabeth has performed Orff Carmina Burana with baritone Christoper Maltman, Mahler 4th Symphony, Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle and a performance of arias from Figaro with The Hanover Band, under Paul Brough.
In May 2009 Elisabeth made her solo debut at the Royal Festival Hall, performing with bass Rene Pape in a concert with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, in the UK premiere of Torsten Rasch’s song cycle Mein Herz Brennt.
Other concert repertoire includes Dvořák Stabat Mater, Haydn Nelson Mass, Elgar Dream of Gerontius and The Kingdom (the latter after which was written of her, “Such poise and confidence…Her rendition of The sun goeth down was heart-achingly beautiful, and she was spot on with every nuance of Elgar's pedantically shifting pulse.”), Haydn Harmoniemesse, Jenkins A Mass for Peace, Mendelssohn Elijah, Mozart C Minor Mass, Rossini Stabat Mater, Tippett A Child of our Time and Vaughan Williams A Sea Symphony.
Discography
Elisabeth has recorded Bernstein Chichester Psalms for Naxos with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, under Marin Alsop. In 2005 Elisabeth recorded, for Hyperion Records, the soprano solos in Tippet A Child of our Time and Mozart Requiem under Jeremy Summerly as part of a fundraising concert for the Tsunami Earthquake Appeal. In 2007 she recorded the role of The Mother in Pete M Wyer’s new opera 57 Hours for English National Opera. She records frequently for the BBC, and has twice been a guest artist on Radio 3’s In Tune.
Training
Elisabeth Meister trained at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 2008 Elisabeth attended the Cardiff International Academy of Voice, where she studied with Dennis O’Neill and received coaching from ROH’s David Gowland, Michael Pollock and Paul Wynne Griffiths, ENO’s Phillip Thomas and WNO’s John Fisher, Andrew Greenwood and Julian Smith. She has participated in masterclasses with Roberta Alexander, Eugene Asti, Richard Bonynge, Iain Burnside, Ileana Cotrubas, Jane Eaglen, Della Jones, Philip Langridge, Tina Ruta, Suzanne Murphy, Ingrid Surgenor, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Sarah Walker.
