Rob I remember how gutted the whole school was when PJ was overlooked for headmaster for some other wannabe. I think that says it all. Thank you Sir.

Sam Gregson This man once pulled a car across the LGS car park using his teeth - enough said

Many great memories, fortunately all of them are happy ones. Though physics lessons with PJ were never dull, I remember one being livened up when Herbie Briars burst into the room and fired 6 shots from a pistol straight at PJ. OK - it was a starting pistol but we impressionable teenagers weren't to know that. PJ hamme...d it up, spun around a couple of times and dropped like a sack of spuds, while the class froze in shock, until PJ arose and went for Herbie, who legged it quite sprightly for a man of his girth. If it happened today, IRB would have been hauled off by the anti-terrorist squad and the class would have undergone counselling. Other events like PVP swimming competitions; rigging propos for the school plays and even helping PJ avoid parking tickets on Briggate when he had a brief sojourn into the rag trade all make up a patchwork quilt of great memories of a great educator.

Too many good things one can say about this man. But there is one huge favor I will forever owe him. When I completed my A-Levels from LGS back in 2000, my grades didn't quite match the conditional offer I was made by Leeds Uni's Dental School. The school was very competitive and strict about their conditions. The offe...r letter made it crystal clear that I MUST score ABB to earn a seat. My grades were ABD. Without even requesting this, not even speaking to him, PJ called me my mobile on the afternoon of results day and asked if I had communicated my grades to Leeds Uni yet. I told him I was just about to do that; he asked me to leave it with him. A few hours later he rang back to inform me that he had called the Uni on my behalf, communicated my results, and re-secured my place after a lengthy negotiation. What a legend!! I truly wish him and his family all the best of luck. Enjoy your retirement PJ, you truly deserve it!Read more

John Williams mr Jolly, just take it easy and have a drink on us []D

Jeremy Ambrose Legend. plain and simple. If the school had a teaching force of Mr.Jollys every student would be a straight A student. Oh and only Mr Jolly could hold a science stool out at arms lenght at the old school and hold it there for the duration of the lecture on leverage! genius!

Enjoy your retirement - you were simply the best.
Your physics lessons in my 2nd year were great - that was about 20 years ago and I can still remember them !
You will never be forgotten and I am sure you made a lasting impression on every child who was ever lucky enough to be at the school at the same time as you.

Adam PJ first aided me on the first day Alwoodley Gates opened. I jumped into the pool, split my head open, and he dragged me out effortlessly. I was only 10 years old but he told me to "man it up" while we waited for the ambulance. Shalln't ever forget what a great teacher he was!

You will be greatly missed at GSAL. Myself and my family have the great privilege of being able to call you a long standing family friend. Whenever we have needed your help you have always been there for us, even if it did entail mucking out horses!!! I will never forget how kind you were to me when Andrew left and ...your excellent advice was very much appreciated. You truly are a star!!! We all love you, especially Francesca!!
