Riding Lights Theatre Company
Win the only complete, hand-written
copy of 'Bugs', Antony Dunn’s third collection of poems
Antony has written, in his own fair hand, a
complete and unique copy of his third collection of poems, Bugs, in a
classic black Moleskine sketchbook, using a series of .38mm black Muji gel-pens.
It will also contain one or two ...new poems, which are not included in the printed
version of Bugs.
The hand-written copy of Bugs will be
auctioned both online and 'live' on Fri 9 Oct at Friargate Theatre, York. It
will be signed, dated and dedicated to the winning bidder.
The auction is being held to raise funds for
Riding Lights Theatre Company, where Antony worked as Marketing Manager from
1997 – 2007, and which will receive every penny of the winner’s payment.
The money will contribute to Riding Lights’ The
Sky’s The Limit fundraising campaign, designed to establish a production
fund over and above the regular income which it needs to keep its doors open.
More details can be found at http://www.ridinglights.org/stl
We know that many people will want to bid on this
item, even if they can't attend the book launch in person. We have therefore
put the book onto eBay so that it is possible to enter your bid whether you're
in York or Yemen. To make things even more exciting, the eBay auction will
close during the book launch at Friargate and all live bids will be put onto
eBay so that as the closing time approaches you can still have a chance of
winning. Just follow this link to the eBay page:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V iewItem&item=250506650261&ssPageName=ADM E:L:LCA:GB:1123
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALTHOUGH THE EBAY PAGE
SUGGESTS THAT THE AUCTION WILL END ON 10 OCTOBER, IT WILL ACTUALLY END AT 8.30pm
BRITISH SUMMER TIME ON FRIDAY 9th OCTOBER, WITH THE WINNER BEING THE HIGHEST
CURRENT BIDDER AT THAT TIME.
The 'live' auctioneer here at Friargate will be
poet and founder member of Riding Lights, Nigel Forde.
Please note: the reserve price is £100.
You are also very welcome to come along to
the launch at which Antony will read from Bugs for around half an hour,
and will be available to sign ordinary copies of the book, which will be on sale
for £9.00.
The bar will be open throughout, and you’re warmly invited to stay
around for as long as you like.

After a sell out performance with their last performance at Friargate Theatre in October last year, GIRL AND DEAN stop off in York to give us a preview... of their hilarious new show before continuing on their way north to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
This evening is another in a series of events which aim to raise £5,000 to bring a small group of Palestinian students to Riding Lights’ Summer Theatre School (http://www.ridinglights.org/sts08) in August.
Since their debut show at the Pleasance Edinburgh as part of the 2007 Fringe Girl and Dean (Jess Ransom and Sarah Dean) have performed sell out shows at the Canal Café Theatre and Pleasance Islington as well as regular gigs in London and Brighton.
In 2007 Girl and Dean knitted all their props for their Edinburgh fringe show - beards, nuns wimples, ninjas nunchucks. Their newfound status as ‘wool-lebrities’ lead to performances to hundreds of craft lovers at the UK Knitting and Stitching Show, Alexandra Palace and the launch of Stitch n’Bitch UK, and a feature in US magazine Vogue Knitting. In 2008, the show maintains its ‘hand-crafted’ feel but with significantly less woollen items owing to knitting related RSI!
Praise for Edinburgh 2007...
“This sassy tour de force tickles the ribs from the get-go.” The Scotsman
“Girl and Dean are a unique & creative duo with an acute sense of the imaginary.“ Edinburgh Evening News
“They ping-pong through an intelligent set of surreal fun without missing a beat. TV awaits.” The List
“Excellent. I foresee a long career ahead.” one4review.com
“A very gifted pair of confident artistes with a bright future.” Scotsgay
“Lovely stuff. The props alone deserve an ovation...some truly nutty characters it all nips along making an hour seem too short.” Edfringe.com (audience review)
“Fresh, inoffensive fun. A true festival highlight. The hour flies by with quality sketches, knitted together with the best soundtrack at the festival. A show for everyone.” Edfringe.com (audience review)
“Loved it! Very funny. Two engaging performers. I took my 13 year old daughter & she really enjoyed it. Recommended.” Edfringe.com (audience review)
“What a hoot!” Christine Hamilton
Riding Lights Theatre Company is currently engaged in a major project working alongside and in support of the Palestinian christian community.
This project which began in 2006 has several stages all of which aim to build relationships, create opportunities and increase awareness of the issues facing Palestinians living within the walls of the occupied territories.
In addition to leading theatre workshops in Bethlehem and touring a major new play Salaam Bethlehem around the UK this autumn, Riding Lights has committed itself to raising the money to enable a group of teenage drama students from Bethlehem and their teacher to attend our Summer Theatre School in 2008.
This evening is another in a series of events which aim to raise £5,000 to make this possible. Once immediate expenses have been met, the lion’s share of box-office and bar income will go towards this fund. A full house at Friargate Theatre will ensure that we raise another big chunk of that total!

Ever been on a disastrous summer holiday? Three Men in a Boat will make yours seem like a honeymoon picnic. Jerome’s classic comedy comes roaring to life in a delightfully accident-packed evening as three men take a boat trip up the Thames i...n 1889. Through a series of hilarious mishaps and ineptitudes, a healthy rest-cure on the river goes badly adrift.
Splendidly adapted from what is arguably the funniest book in English literature, the renowned trio of ‘young fogies’, Jerome, Harris and George, give you a comic cavalcade of escapist diversions – everything from the affair of the strong cheese on a crowded train to Harris’s farcical attempts to sing a comic song at a polite dinner party. An ingenious production, with a masterpiece of a boat.
A brilliant evening for everyone in the holiday mood – shot though with classic music hall songs from the Victorian period.

Riding Lights Theatre Company
The Riding Lights Summer Theatre School is arguably one of the best creative holiday weeks you could ever experience…
…and there would be plenty of us who would be glad to argue the point at some length, including many of our students who have returned (several times in some cases) for more!
For the third year running, w...e’ll be gathering at HARROGATE LADIES’ COLLEGE, a picturesque spot on the edge of one of the most distinctive towns in North Yorkshire, where all of us (gentlemen as well as ladies) will benefit from good food, comfortable accommodation, a range of sporting activities including a swimming pool, a chapel and a bar – all those ingredients which help to provide that illusory feeling of holiday relaxation within the theatrical hurly-burly!
To provide food for thought, discussion and an interactive link between the various courses, our team of professional tutors and theatre practitioners has decided on a unifying theme for our work this year: LIVING IN HOPE. This connects with the work our Roughshod company has been doing under the banner of HOPE ’08. It will also provide a focus for our daily worship and the scheduled performances by Riding Lights Theatre Company and other performers who will be flying in and out of the Summer School.
Bringing together 120 creative people for a dynamic week of theatre training and experiment has become a real highlight of the Riding Lights calendar – one which we regard as a privilege to organise. I sincerely hope that among this year’s courses you’ll find something that looks like it will serve your needs. If you have not yet dipped a toe into our theatrical whirlpool, can I urge you to do so without delay, before those who have already taken the plunge nab all the places… because, as I say, this is arguably one of the best creative holidays around!
