UBS Openings: The Long Weekend 2009 House of Fairy Tales Monday 25 May 2009, 17.00 Take part in a series of workshops and activities for families and people of all ages as House of Fairy Tales take residency outside Tate Modern by the riverside. Make, do, explore and perform, whilst exploring themes and ideas generated... by Arte Povera. Join in the exploration of material and process through activities such as sewing, drawing and sculpture; enter a witch’s gingerbread house and make crazy characters; make and play unusual instruments; explore silhouettes and shadow puppets; read all about Arte Povera and fairy tales in a travelling horsebox library called Pegasus; learn to dance around a maypole, in this unique celebration of homemade culture as an antidote to commercialism and an unmissable visual and aural feast. The House of Fairy Tales is a non profit production company, set up in 2007 by artists Gavin Turk and Deborah Curtis to produce large and small scale, national and local events celebrating and promoting creative education. They work with an expanding network of visual artists, theatre performers, musicians, as well as creative mathematicians, inventors, engineers and scientists to help equip the next generation with the imagination needed for their future on the planet. They work in public spaces and in partnership with other institutions in order to reach a wide range of groups, cultures and abilities.

Welcome in the sunny spring time with a homegrown evening of some of the warmest bands in town and afar.
In our first ever "Strange Brew" mix the line up includes our good selves and very good friends Treecreeper - "Drenched in rich, gritty guitars reminiscent of Buffalo Tom and Dinosaur Jr and propelled by a (blurred) ...vision of world weary romanticism, bleak but not devoid of the kind of hope found in a bar room or a bottle".
Wundertone record's Stephen Hedley from Vancouver, Canada -" bubbles with synth squiggles that would make a Radiohead fan sit up and take notice" and " soft acoustic picking that is underscored by sweeping lap-steel tones." Hedley himself is a gifted tunesmith whose lilting voice has just enough grain to give his delivery a bit of grit. You almost get the feeling he doesn't really need all those other folks—but it sure doesn't hurt having them around.
Not to mention East London's "Sunlight Service Group" -"Psychedelic space rock for a parallel version of yourself, flying sideways through a stargate shaped like children dancing round a Maypole." Yay!
We've also got Dj's Crago from East London's, Cornish Psych-Folksters "Men-An-Tol" as well as Mr. Piers "2Cool4U" Rueb spinning tunes, that span the decades. And it's free! So come on down, have a beer of two, sit back, enjoy and welcome in the spring with us.

Hey Folks! We get a super duper support date, Opening up for one of my all time favourite artists _ Hayden. From Toronto, Canada with 6 albums under his belt, Hayden and his band are one of the best acts around if you are into beautiful, catchy, indie folksy songs, sung with a croaky delicacy that radiates emotion and ...insight just below the surface. His new album, " In Field and Town" just released in the U.K. is a superb example.
