Uncommon currently includes eleven schools in New York City, upstate New York, and Newark. The organization also has two associate member schools in Boston. Uncommon schools are built on the following principles:
• All students – regardless of race, class, or geography – are entitled to an excellent education.
• Closing the achievement gap is essential to making our society more just.
• The right measure of a school’s success is whether its students are equipped with the skills they need to enter, succeed in, and graduate from college.
• Great teaching and great schools are rigorous, engaging, and data-driven.
• There is always more we – teachers, school leaders, staff members – can learn to get better at what we do.
Uncommon is currently hiring for the 2009-10 school year. We are looking for committed Teachers, Deans of Students, and School Leaders (both instructional and operational) who want to join us in our work of providing a high-quality, college-prep education to students in urban communities.
