Again, with the advertising, we've got a way to go to get it where we want it. At the moment we're using Google ads, which a generally very good but we don't have any real control over them and who they're by. They are generally very relevant and useful things though.

So, just to be clear f...or those reading this, the ads WILL currently be very relevant to the pages of the site you're looking at, but WON'T yet be recommended by ridingboards.com, as we can't yet say that we know the suppliers and their services.

When we're up and running, we may include a separate section for advertisers who we know, and can say that we'd be very happy to use.

As always, we're very open to any thought and suggestions on this subject.

Cheers,

Andy

We haven't planned to include forums on ridingboards.com, as it's intended to be more about the media, but if people think that forums would be good - we'll be happy to add them later.

On the business side: we are hoping that this will become a successful business, based mainly on advertisi...ng on the site. To begin with this will just mean the Google ads on the right hand side of the page, but we have plans for that too...

Our view on advertising is that it can actually be a useful thing, as long as there's plenty of time and effort put into making sure that the adverts are for things that the users of the site are looking for, and that the advertisers themselves provide good services and good value. So we'd like to develop the advertising side into something that people can trust - ie, you click on an ad on ridingboards.com, and you can be sure that we've checked it out, and that it offers good stuff!

Hey Pete, good call - hadn't spotted that! Changed accordingly.

The basic idea behind the site is that there's tons of surf, snow and skate media out there on the internet, but nowhere that brings it together into one place and organises it into useful categories. So, for example, if you were planning a boarding trip to... Chamonix in France, you might spend some time trawling through different video, photo and info sites and search their archives for Chamonix. We want ridingboards.com to do the trawling, so that people can simply come along, find the spot they're looking for and find what they need. We've got a way to go before we have enough places on there to be useful for many people but we're looking into ways to get that happening more quickly.

The other side of it is the interactive stuff with trips - Rather than write about that here, I'll just point to the stuff in the FAQs on the site:

Out of space here! More in the post above...
